An Absolutely Awesome Date Night

Last night the Husband and I had an awesome and very much needed date night. Around noon the Husband brought the Kid to the in laws. It was hard to say 'bye' to the Kid since he has been going through some serious seperation anxiety recently. That's why I am so looking forward to the 5 days I will have off as of Tuesday afternoon because that will give the Kid the chance to get really really sick of me.

After the Husband and Kid headed off, I did some last minute shopping (I am officially done with all my Christmas shopping! Holla!) and checked my list twice to make sure we have all the food needed for 2.5 days when the shops are closed. I also cleaned and did laundry and strung up one more strand of lights. Our apartment? Christmas tackiness to the extreme. Awesome!

The Husband came home a couple of hours later and took a nap and I put on a face mask and put my hair in curlers and pretty much was a giggly idiot in anticipation. Around 5 we headed to the Rathaus Christmas market. Definitely not one of my favourite markets but when it comes to ornaments, it is a great place. Also, it's kind of pretty with all the lights and the neo-gothic building. Pretty pretty.

The place was packed and I kvetched to the Husband "I don't like crowds, I don't like green eggs and ham" We finally found a spot that didn't feel like a mosh pit and I found my perfect ornament and also found an ornament for the Kid. I'm hoping next year he will be able to choose the one he wants (with guidance). I might have a brightly lit white fake tree, but when it comes to ornaments, I like quality. Here is my ornament. Love. I think it is self explanatory.

And this is the one I chose for the Kid. An elephant in a tutu. Now, the tutu wasn't the selling point. It was the elephant. The Kid has been my "elephant" since he was a baby. He has a cat personality somewhat but he is truly an elephant. Loud, stompy but affectionate and aware that our family is matriarchal. I love this ornament.

Of course the Husband couldn't make a decision so I got twitchy so he bought me a strawberry punsch with a lot of booze and suddenly I was more relaxed. Finally the Husband settled on this ornament. It's fairly similar to a model car he bought the Kid a year ago. This car has been so taken apart that I am tempted to create a miniature trailer park and place it in the miniature front yard.

Editor's note: The Furla purse in the back was a gift from my mom. I did not choose this as a background but the Husband was adamant that the ornaments have a "backdrop". Suddenly he is Annie Leibovitz.

After we got our ornaments, we headed to the casino. We had a grand ole time playing roulette. We broke even which was great. We aren't big gamblers and we always set a limit and know when to walk away. At one point the Husband was getting a little crazed "One more bet! One more bet!". So I promised he could look at my boobs later and that stopped the crazy. We spent a couple of hours there and broke up the gambling with a couple of drinks at the bar. We talked and laughed and held hands and it was pretty special.

After the casino we walked around the center and saw a Greek restaurant and decided to have a late dinner there. I went off carbs for the night but it's not the end of the world. I had the spanakopita (spinach pie) with tzatziki and the Husband had the gyros plate and we drank beer and held hands and just had a superb time and some serious garlic breath.

After dinner we headed home and photographed the ornaments and watched some TV and had one more nightcap. I have to say, it was one of best nights out in a long time. I think we needed some alone couple time and to reconnect after all the craziness that has recently taken place. I think we are heading towards a much brighter time! I just hope the Husband will see that I am right about the new kindergarten and that I am right about EVERYTHING!

Oh dear lord, 2 more sleeps until Christmas eve!!
