Last Minute Projects and This Week's Menu

Wow! Only 2 weeks left! I can't believe almost 4 months have gone by. I got stuff done and I didn't get some stuff done but now that the crunch is on, I am in a panic to complete ALL THE SUMMER PROJECTS! What I have left to do: -Clean out the closet and get rid of a few more bags of crap -Clean out one of our bookshelves and replace with purses so that there is more room in the closet for crap -New one since the weekend: paint the dining table and chairs (originally the table was shiny navy and I wanted it to match our brown Kenyan furniture, so about 7 years ago I sanded it down and painted it brown and gold. I had blue snot for a week. Now I want it white with blue print.) -Sew a couple of tops -Get as much writing on my novel as possible It is going to be a very busy 2 weeks. This morning I brought the Kid to daycare, walked to the bagel place for gluten free bagels, brought a pair of pants to the tailor and then walked to a furniture store for white paint. In about

Gluten Free Crispy Pork Spring Rolls

Yesterday a friend came over to drill in some shelves. Since neither of us have actually drilled anything ever, so it was an amusing time. My friend started drilling a hole and then announced "I think I've hit metal". So she withdrew, I attempted to cover the hole with white nailpolish and we chose another location while cackling "safety first!". Lemme just say, we rock. We got a shelf up and did a little dance and knocked back some Coke Zero and felt like menly men. We were going to drill another shelf in in the hallway and just before she made another hole, I noticed an electrical box and said "ummm. Let's just call it a day." So then I gave her a shellac manicure and all was good in the world. In the evening I met a friend for some Indian food and it was spicy and awesome and a fun time. Loving these warm summer nights and can't believe I have only 2 more weeks of Summer break. Sob. Adult times ahead. I'm a little tired this morning bu

This and That

Monday and Tuesday were great; played tennis both days, picked up the Kid and then headed to a friend's apartment. She has an enclosed courtyard so it was perfect in keeping the two year old contained. Yesterday I spend the morning making gluten free lasagna and spinach spiked brownies. The recipe is from Jessica Seinfeld's cookbook and the idea is to trick kids into eating veggies. Tricks me too. Win. This morning I bought some baskets to organise the bedroom and tomorrow morning a friend is going to help me drill in shelves. This can only end well. Pray for me. It's day 6 of being gluten free and it feels good. I haven't lost weight but I feel like I have more energy. I ate way way way too much of the lasagna last night, so tonight I am making Tom Kha Gai soup and pork spring rolls. No cheese. Good for me. In other news, the daycare is impressed with how well the Kid is doing, You may or may not remember the fun time I had visiting a child therapist? Yeah, that wa

Back to Blogging and Gluten Free

I haven't blogged since before going to Greece. Bad me. I decided to be hedonistic and consume crap the last few weeks and now I am paying for it but it was fun and now party time is over. I have three more weeks until I am back at work and to be really really honest, I'm actually looking forward to it. I like schedules and I like to be busy and oh yeah, I like to get paid. Greece was fun but travelling with a 2 year old does not a relaxing holiday make. He was totally awesome at the resort and it was totally awesome to spend so much time with him. My little man is becoming a little man and while it freaks the crap out of me that he is growing so fast, it is amazing to see him grow up and develop. I feel pretty freaking blessed to have had this time to spend with him. He makes me laugh like John Stewart and Happy Endings rolled into one. It has not only been a hedonistic few weeks due to my eating but also to my drinking. I have played a lot of tennis. I attended a speakeas
