A Meeting at the Film Casino and An Upcoming Book Launch

Hello Saturday! Hello long weekend! I actually slept a solid 8 hours which feels absolutely amazing! The Husband and the Kid are still asleep and I love this quiet hour to myself. Soon the Kid will be up, running around and humming so I like to use this time wisely: looking at pictures on Pinterest. It was an absolutely crazy week of work. By yesterday afternoon, we were all zombies and wanted to cry in relief that we had made it to the weekend. After work I met my friend D.K. at our local and had some wine and caught up. Around 6 I headed home, did my hair (part of the Tova be Toning it Up Challenge), made some dinner and then cut out flyers for today's book launch. Not my book launch because I just got ANOTHER rejection from a literary agent but that's o.k...one day it will happen. The Husband and I watched Burn Notice and then I headed out into the freezing windy night for a run. I was going to run 30 minutes but I was feeling so great that I added another 5 minutes to the run. And boy, did I feel smug after that!

I took a shower, put on my pj's and then passed out... still feeling smug. This morning I plan to get another run in and then do a little shopping. Nothing exciting unless someone finds laminate sheets exciting. I guess some people do. Just after 2 I will go to the Beaver Brewing Company for the book launch I mentioned above. My friend Johnny Morgan is coming out with another book (Me jealous? Why yes!) and he has generously offered for me to hang out there and collect money from people for the Beacon Beach House. I'm not great at this so there will most likely be moments where I put out my hand and gesture like a bellboy asking for a tip or turn into Tom Cruise. Either or.

I am nothing if not classy. If you are around, definitely drop by the Beaver Brewing Company today between 3 and 6 to buy his new book and get him to sign it! I would sign it for you but I don't know much about football and I would probably write "Dream for the stars, aim for the planets." or something. After the launch, I will go home, make dinner and probably work out again because I am reaching the end of Week 2 of my challenge and wow. I feel pretty awesome.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's recap. It's definitely shorter than last week's post. But I will be weighing in and shit. I forgot to write more about my meeting last Sunday. I had a meeting with the guy from the Film Casino. Back in November I contacted them about possibly hosting a sensory friendly screening of a cartoon. The guy wrote me back and we chatted (in German. Well, in Gerglish on my side) back and forth about how many people would be attending, light and noise settings. In December we had the event and it was an absolute blast. The Kid did not sit still but it was a huge milestone for him to even enter the theater. Just the other week, I was planning on writing the Film Casino again to see if I could set up another movie afternoon and coincidentally he wrote me first and told me about the film Life Animated that they will be premiering in June. He asked if I would be interested in collaborating and I probably wrote something highly Germanic and intellectual... yes... I think I wrote "Nah super!" We arranged a time to meet last Sunday and when I showed up, I was surprised. I don't know why I had a vision of an older and grizzled Wiener, holding a can of Blech beer but I did. The guy was nothing like that and he immediately said "Deutsch oder Englisch?" and I gratefully said "English if that is alright." and he switched into fluent English. I stopped and asked "Um, why you so fluent?" and he explained he had lived in Glasgow for a while. To which I wanted to exclaim "THEN WHY DID YOU KEEP LETTING ME WRITE HORRIBLE E-MAILS TO YOU?!?! BUTCHERING GERMAN, I WAS!" but I didn't. He talked about how the guy from Life Animated was coming to Vienna and he was setting up a premiere and a panel of experts. I am unfortunately not in town when it is happening so I am bummed but I will be trying to help out as much as possible. The good news is is that he will show the film again in mid June as a matinee so that is incredibly exciting! And the best news of all, is that the Film Casino is now planning on hosting more sensory-friendly movie afternoons. The guy said that he believes in inclusion and I was like, I like that you do because there is going to be so much inclusion in this town when I am done. Super hero name? The Inclusionator. Yes.

So it was a fantastic meeting and I am such a huge fan of the Film Casino. They were completely amazing during the sensory friendly matinee in December and now they have gone above and beyond! Yaaay! But so sad to miss the premiere. I will be flying back from Canada that night and speaking of Canada, less than 4 weeks until I leave! GAH! So much to do! I finally booked my flight from Toronto to Ottawa and back. I saw on Facebook that my brother had taken the Toronto Island flight and I was intrigued. I looked it up and there is a company called Porter that can get you to Ottawa in under an hour. SOLD! No more train or bus for this cosmopolitan gal! I looked up the pictures of the plane and they are tiny and I am a little scared but if I pretend it is a private jet and imagine all the Instagram pictures I can take... I will be just fine. I was telling my friend S.R. about the plane and she helpfully asked "Have you ever seen The Edge?" DAMMIT! I will be fine. It will be fine. EVERYTHING IS FINE!

Next weekend is the Autism in Vienna Beacon Beach House family picnic. Check out Facebook for details. So far the weather looks like it will be crappy so we might have to postpone but fingers crossed everything works out! The day before that, I have to be at the Hard Rock Cafe in the morning. They are having their annual Pin Fiesta and I am not quite sure what to expect but I don't have to organize something so I am totally chilled about it. Otherwise this weekend is going to be pretty quiet with lots of working out and crafts. I need this downtime before the craziness picks up again! So I wish you all a fab weekend! And stay tuned for tomorrow's recap of week 2 of the Tova Be Toning it Up Challenge! Toodles!
