Update - Once Again

So, nothing much has changed since I last wrote about the Kid and the hunt for the new daycare. The only thing I can report is that the Kid forgives incredibly quickly and apparently is a bit of a riot at the daycare when he is not having a meltdown.

On Tuesday we finally went to the ear doctor that a few people had raved about and they were completely correct in their raving. The guy is good. His practice overlooks the Opera and the snob in me immediately did a happy dance. Our appointment was at 5 but we had to wait about 15 minutes which was manageable. The Kid discovered curtains and hid behind them. Every other minute he would open them and yell "TA DA!" and that was a proud moment for this blossoming stage mom. And quite possibly the awesomest part, was the autographed picture of Pavarotti on the wall. Booyah!

Anyway, when we were called in, the Kid wanted.none.of.that and we had to bring him in physically. He saw the equipment and went a little mental. The Husband held him while the doctor checked his ears and the Kid turned purple with rage. Like a kool-aid coloured mini-Hulk, if you will. Once that was done, the Kid was released and yelled at the three of us and I believe he swore in some foreign language. He tried to escape but I lured him back with my smart phone. We talked to the doctor and he told us that there is definitely fluid behind his right ear but he does not think it is causing a problem with his hearing. We should plan to come back in the Fall and get him checked again - that time, with restraints - and see if he will eventually need surgery. The doctor also reassured us that the Kid is not the hardest kid he has seen and that made us feel a lot better. He probably totally lied to us and now he will use the Kid as an example for other parents of difficult kids. Whatever, I felt better.

In one way I am happy that the Kid does not have any real issue with his hearing, yet I am also a little bummed that we still do not have clarity on why he has such insane outbursts and why he has such a language delay. I know that in a few months; once we start ergotherapy and hopefully get him into a new daycare, we will start to see a change but still...frustration (said in a French accent). Everything sounds more dramatic with a French accent.

So that was Tuesday. Yesterday the child psychologist visited the Kid at his daycare to see him in his unnatural habitat. She noted that the place is too small for him, too strict and too regimented and I agree. We have a meeting with the Daycare on Tuesday and we will see what our next steps are. I hope that we can at least stay until August but only going in the mornings. It will involve a lot of juggling and stress but at least he would have a place until an integration place opens up in the fall (hopefully earlier than that). Otherwise the psychologist noted he was super good and sweet while she was there. Smart kid.

So that is that for now! Today after work I am getting some more fabric for the Kid's African-themed room. On Saturday I will head to the hardware store with a friend to get manly man stuff and on Sunday I hope to glue another several hundred tiny mirrors onto canvas. I would have gone today but we have burly men replacing our windows currently. ONLY THREE MORE WEEKS TO GO! Holla!
