Hardware Stores and Perfect Sundays

Well, just under 3 weeks until the big move. On Wednesday our new kitchen is being installed and yes, I will be there because if the Husband is in charge, the kitchen might end up being built in the bedroom, for, you know, convenience. This week will be another crazy week of planning. Tomorrow we have a meeting with the daycare to see if we can all agree that the Kid attend only half days and therefore they can keep him until September until a new spot opens up. Apparently the psychologist already discussed this with them last week and they seemed ok with the suggestion and yet, the Husband did not tell me this until Saturday afternoon. That was fun.

Anyway, on Wednesday, as I mentioned, the kitchen will be installed and a large Ikea order will be delivered. I will spend the day watching men put in counters while I glue more tiny mirrors to canvas. I was going to do that this weekend but all of our crap in the new apartment is under plastic sheets due to the new windows being installed. And, they look great. As much as I loved the old original windows, these new ones are so much more practical and we now have ledge space. FILL ALL THE LEDGES WITH CRAP!

So that's the plan this week. Over the weekend I bought a faucet for the new kitchen. That was fun. Early Saturday morning, I made my way over to OBI which is located in the 11th district. Looking at several maps and Google Earth views, I ascertained that this hardware store was located approximately one finger length from the awesome bar and restaurant O'Connors which is about 2 finger lengths from our current apartment. With my jaunty Tommy Hilfiger purse and yoga pants, I made my way. It was a gorgeous sunny and warm morning. Getting off at the St. Marx tram stop, I started walking in the general direction of the store. It's a very industrial area. To calm my nerves and ward off any would-be serial killers, I sang a song in my head. It went something like this "La la la. Walking past car dealerships. La la la. Oh look, brush on the side of this large street! What a perfect place to hide a body. La la la. Walking under a highway. La la la. Look! Another highway. Let's not attack and kill the Tova. La la la" After a good 25 minutes and 3 self-induced panic attacks, I got to the store.

Now, hardware stores are pretty awesome. They are big, not ever really crowded and filled with stuff that seems perfect for Pinterest projects. But alas, with no car and only a faucet on my list, it wasn't the time to search for industrial strength glue. While I think hardware stores are great, I always seem to have the same problem. My uterus suddenly decides to leap out of my body, singing show tunes while dressed in a Bob Mackie one of a kind outfit. It screams "GIRL LOST AND WILL SPEND ALL OF HER MONEY" and then I end up going in circles with a look of devastation until someone asks me where my mother is. I guess it was a slow day because nobody helped me. Or I am old and nobody needs to help that.
Yes, I need some pallets and some mason jars. I saw it on Pinterest.

After about 20 minutes, I finally located the faucet and decided to pick up flower seeds because, you know, important. The trip was a success and when I got home, the Husband opened the box containing the faucet and said "You know, you could have gotten a different one if you had wanted to". He did not see that piece of chrome fly out of nowhere. Don't get me started.

After faucet gate on Saturday, Sunday ended up being an amazing day. We went for brunch at the inlaws where the Kid was an absolute doll. Then in the afternoon we headed to our new playground and the Kid just ran and ran and giggled. It was the first weekend in a very long time that he did not have a meltdown and that to me makes it a pretty special few days. Who knows, maybe the Kid likes a little drama in the form of specialists and parental breakdowns. Probably not. But I will keep that option open. Stay tuned for kitchen installing drama and possible spousal abuse. What a week coming up!
