Supernatural and a Baby!

Image
What a beautiful sunshiney day! I am exhausted and feeling sick again but I am in a fabulous mood. I would be in an even better mood if the Kid did not have a fit last night at 3 in the morning. It has been a while and I hate hate hate when they happen. He suddenly screamed in the middle of the night and came running into our room. He pushed us away and threw things and I had to wrap him in a blanket and sit on him for about 20 minutes until he came back. I have described his fits before and every time they break my heart. He turns into a thing possessed and we just have to ride it out. He was also coughing so I told the Husband to open the windows. And then I said "Close the windows!!" because the last thing we needed was the police showing up and asking if we were torturing our child. Our neighbour downstairs just came back after her winter jaunt and we also didn't need her knocking at our door this morning. This is what happens when you brag about how awesome your kid

Happy Easter!

Friday was a fun me-day. I was finally feeling back to my normal self after 2 days of sleeping. We sent the Kid to daycare because ME DAY! He was feeling much better and was pumped to go. I promise. I watched some TV with the Husband and then got dressed (hello bra!) and met a friend in the center. We went to the Easter market, looked at the eggs, watched a kid break an egg, saw his mother get mad at him and then both mentioned how we would never ever bring our sons to the market ever. We then headed to Palmenhaus to get our sekt on and have a midday breakfast. I used to actively dislike the Palmenhaus years ago. But something odd has happened - the service is now incredible! Both times I have been this past year, the servers have been jovial, nice and incredibly competent. On Friday, our server was absolutely lovely and practically sang as he brought us our drinks and food. So yup, Palmenhaus is back on my radar. But I am not sitting near the butterfly house next door because I am con

The Story of the Cake and Being Sick

Ugh. Dammit! Sick again! At least today I am starting to feel a little better. I was sick a couple of weeks ago but a day of sleep seemed to clear it up. On Monday the Kid had a fever and a cough and I stayed home with him in the morning. Monday afternoon I went to work and stayed until about 9:45 and I will write about that in a little bit. Tuesday morning I woke up and felt awful - that fish bowl head feeling but I got dressed and put on some make up and headed to work. If I am sick, I generally won't go to work because it isn't fair to infect colleagues but it was the end of a mega-conference and I would have spent the day feeling incredibly guilty. One friend was like "Hey shitface, if you get me sick, I will hunt you down and kill you." so, yeah, there is a lot of love and support where I work. Heh. Towards the end of the day, I noticed my neck had swollen and that's when I knew it was time to call it a day and succumb to whatever plague the Kid infected

A Nice Weekend and the Week Ahead and Sending Another Apology E-mail

Image
Oh man was I weepy this morning. I don't relax much. Sure, there are afternoons I will chill on the sofa and watch cartoons with the Kid. And I usually get on average 7 hours of sleep (rarely continuous) but when I plan a time of rest, that time of rest better happen or else it is a little like "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!" The other week, I had a planned day off to just chill on the sofa and watch Murder She Wrote and take a mid-morning nap but the Kid was sick so he was at home with me and there was no napping to be had. I was a tad upset. Just a little. A teeny tiny bit. Yes, the Husband got an apology e-mail. Then there was that Tuesday morning last week that I wanted to sleep in and then the Husband assumed I was taking the Kid to daycare and he just left and that turned me into a harpy. And then, then! This morning I had planned a morning of self pampering at home because I have to start work at 2 today and work past my bedtime and I was all geared up for some Jessica

Busy Week, losing weight and a Mini Rant

Image
Hello Saturday! Man, am I glad to see you! It was a ridiculously busy week at work and Monday and Tuesday will be busy as well. On Monday I have to work from 2 p.m. until 10 and while I am not a fan of working later, I am kind of looking forward to having the morning to myself. It felt like a very long week starting with a gig on Monday, an editorial meeting with the lovely people of Vienna Würstelstand on Wednesday, an early dinner with the Husband on Thursday and then drinks with a couple of friends last night. Next week promises to be a lot less social which will be a good thing. Last night I met my friend D.K. for a couple of drinks at our normal hangout Cafe Gitarre and then I hopped onto the 13A and met a friend and her friend at a lovely little cafe called Epos. After some Aperol spritzers, we decided to stop for a quick drink and some gyoza at the always awesome der Fuchs und die Trauben. It was packed, but luckily we were able to get a couple of seats at the end of a long

End of the 30 Day Yoga Challenge and Other Things

Image
Hello everybody! Today is the end of the 30 day yoga challenge! Tonight I will be doing my last session of yoga. Well, not my last one because yup, I am hooked. These 30 days were tough but they taught me a lot and I have definitely seen the benefits of yoga... which is weird considering I never used to be a fan. I have always been a "If I sweat, it works" kind of girl. And while there is sweating in Yoga (especially in hot yoga) it never seemed to be the type of workout that would take me from Jabba to seeing my own feet. But I was wrong. So very very wrong. 30 days of continuous yoga doing has definitely made a difference. I am definitely more flexible, my upper body strength is stronger, my balance has improved and I am a lot less jiggly. Sure, I am not super-take-off-my-shirt-toned but I am getting there. Don't worry... even if I get there, the shirt stays on. Another incredible benefit I have noticed is that I am definitely a lot more zen... Well, most of the tim

A Chill and Fun Weekend

Hello Monday! Looks like the sun is coming up but according to the forecast, it is going to be a cold-ass day and that makes me sad. I am ready for warmer days and lighter coloured fashion and open-toed shoes and sitting on terraces and drinking Aperol spritzers and Hugos and getting my fake tan on again. But I will have to be patient. Tomorrow is the last day of my 30 day yoga challenge. It is pretty exciting to reach this milestone and I am proud of myself for doing it. Sure, there were some days that I did a short session of about 10 minutes because I just could not Downward Facing Dog after beer but I did it. Tomorrow's post will be all smug and stuff. On Saturday I had my interview with FM4. The Kid ran around and will be the background noise of the interview so that should be eclectic. The interview was about 10 minutes long and I am not sure what I said... but at the end, the lovely Joanna Bostock said I did a wonderful job and I said "Yeah, I pretend to be intervie

A Couple of Wild Days and a Radio Interview

Hello Saturday! Apologies for not writing sooner. I have been busy being equal parts responsible mother/employee and being fabulous. Heh. It has been a crazy week of unexpected nights out, yoga at home and a session of finance coaching. I was supposed to go to the Mosaique concert on Tuesday but I ended up not getting a ticket in time and I am starting to think I might just have some problems with events that require... tickets (re: David Sedaris reading the other week). Tuesday I had a fun fun night meeting up with different friends and Wednesday, the Husband was out so once the Kid was in bed, it was me-time. I did some yoga, took a bath and watched one of my favourite movies: Woman on Top . This film is responsible for making me want to learn how to cook back in da day. It was panned by critics when it came out 16 years ago but I definitely adore this film. And I even have the soundtrack. When I cook, I need accompanying music; Maria Callas for Italian dishes, Woman on Top for

Poutine Party and Beating a Cold

Image
'Sup Tuesday? It is good to be back in the land of the living. I was pretty much out the last 2 days fighting a cold. The Kid was sick last week and kept coughing into my face. I was sure I could fight it but it got me in the end. Friday was my half off day because the Kid was still home sick. In the afternoon, I met a friend for lunch and we went to Cafe Wirr and then stopped at Pure Living Bakery for dessert. I didn't realize that Pure Living Bakery is currently getting blasted for their no-stroller policy. Not touching that debate at.all. Anyway, after a slice of vegan chocolate cake and a soy latte, I headed to my friend's place to watch some reality TV. We sat on her bed and I thanked her for making this a great half day off by fulfilling my need to veg and watch the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. At 4, I got up and headed to Yoga Loft to sweat out the chocolate cake and soy latte and boy do I regret those food choices. After hot yoga, I headed home, took a show

Do's and Don'ts of Hot Yoga/Bikram for your First Time

Image
Namaste Motherlovers! A fabulous Saturday afternoon to you all! I went to Bikram this morning because a) I love it and am so happy that I am doing it again and b) I am having poutine tonight. Yes, yes, not vegan poutine, but I can make an exception for POUTINE! Anway, now that I can almost touch my toes, I consider myself a bit of an expert at the hot yoga #cough #cough. No, I am not even close to being an expert but maybe that is a good thing because then I can write this post from more of a beginner's perspective. I started Bikram just under 2 years ago. I was hooked for a couple of months and then due to a terrible summer and some upheavals here and there, I stopped for a while, going only once in a while. What I didn't really realize is that I probably should have continued to go to hot yoga because then I would have probably dealt with stress a lot better instead of face planting into every block of cheese I came across. Or at least I would have been able to bend over with
