A Night to Remember - The Science Ball

Image
Well that was a night to remember! I am currently in my pj's. I spent the whole day in pj's and then changed into leggings and nightgown because a friend came over to eat pizza with me and then I put on my pj's again. Living the dream my friends. Living the dream! I am, how you say, a little delicate today. I am running on about 4 hours of sleep and several liters of water and many many calories of cheese. I am grateful that the Kid has been a champ today and has let me spend most of the day on the sofa. It is hard to believe that ball is over and that makes me a little happy sad. I was very much looking forward to attending this event since I was lucky enough to be invited by the lovely Oliver Lehmann who did an incredible job of organizing it. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like to create an event with 2,800 attendees! I'm ambitious but still.. I also have to say that this was the best ball I have ever attended and that is saying a lot because I gen

Just Another Awesome Vienna Night

Image
Hello Friday night! How goes it? I am a little exhausted and a little euphoric because last night was another spectacular random Vienna night. I love this city for so many reasons but one of my favourite reasons is that nights out often turn out to be spectacularly different from what I expect. Before talking about last night, let's start with the Kid. Since Tuesday, the Kid has been very sick. On Wednesday the Husband texted me that the Kid's fever was at 39.2 and of course I went into panic mode. I ran home and found the Kid acting happy as a clam on Tylenol. But we were ALL HANDS ON DECK especially since he is susceptible to febrile seizures. Speaking of which, today is the one year anniversary of his seizure which led to us spending a week in the hospital. That night was the worst night of my life and I still cry when I think about it and reach for bread. And I am so grateful that the Kid is o.k. Because of the Kid's high fever on Wednesday, I missed Bikram and stress a

So Exciting!

Good morning everybody! It is a sick house right now and boy oh boy what fun! The Husband has had a cold since the weekend and now the Kid is sick. I am doing everything in my power to avoid getting sick because on Saturday is the Vienna Ball of Sciences and I have been looking forward to this for a very long time. Squeal! And nothing is going to stand in my way (said with an ominous voice while holding a diamante earring. Should I wear diamante earrings with the dress? Or maybe a large diamante necklace instead? Hmmm.) Oh right, NOTHING IS GOING TO STAND IN MY WAY! Yesterday evening I completed my 4th session of Bikram in a row. As I mentioned earlier, I am giving myself a 7 day challenge. Yesterday I briefly saw one of the owners of Yoga Loft and he said "You are back! And back-to-back sessions, too!" and I responded with "Got a ball dress to fit into!" and then I regretted saying that because he is a yogi and they love nothing more than to hear that their i

A Bikramy and Crafty Weekend

Hello Sunday night! How goes it? It was, for the most part, a pretty chill weekend. Because as of now, it is go time. Well, it is going to be much busier. Next Saturday is the Vienna Ball of Sciences and the weekend after that is my joint birthday party with Office Twin. So hard being a socialite... so hard. Darn full time job getting in the way of my fabulousness. The Kid is in bed and fingers crossed he actually sleeps well tonight. The last few nights he has come into our room at 3 in the morning to serenade us. Yesterday he was in such a foul mood that when he started to fall asleep at noon I weighed my options; let him sleep and face a terrible night, or keep him up and deal with a soap opera star on speed. I decided for the former and I was even able to take a nap too which was total bliss. But yes, last night was a bit of a mess. Today we decided to keep him awake and oh was there spitting and anger when he tried to take a nap. But we made it and now he is in his bed and sur

Cocktails, Radio, Blues and The Kid

Hello Thursday night! The Kid is in bed, babbling to himself. I just took a shower and put on some anti-cellulite cream and for a moment I thought I was having an MSG attack but it turns out, according to the label, there is a warming effect. This is slightly weird. I kind of feel like fire ants are having a cook out on my thighs. There's a visual! Anyway, the last couple of days have been pretty busy. I am still waiting to hear back about the Autism center and since this is Austria, I have to realize that this could take a while. I am incredibly impatient when it comes to... well... when it comes to anything I want. Sometimes while waiting for a package, I will briefly think about catching a train to the distribution center and saying "That's alright, I will just find my boob tape by myself." Dear lord, this cream is really heating up! Did I put on Bengay? Anyway, speaking of boob tape, I just bought these sticky plastic strapless, backless bra things for the bal

A Veddy Veddy Viennese Friday, A Lazy Saturday and A Nice Sunday

Happy Sunday night everybody! The Kid is in bed, my sleepy time tea has brewed and the bra is off for the night. Good times. It was a pretty great weekend! I didn't do anything too embarrassing and I even got some stuff done so win, win. I just wrote wine, wine and now I am sad because I want wine but I won't have wine. Trying to cut back and all that. Blergh. So without further ado, take a seat and here is what happened this past weekend, yo. Friday afternoon I left work in a stupidly thin coat. I wore a stupidly thin coat because I planned to go fabric shopping after work and if I wear a thick coat when I go shopping I end up getting all overheated and grumpy and I start being surly while I fan myself with my oversized wallet and blow up my bangs in exaggerated frustration and then if I get just too darn hot, I end up leaving without buying anything and that just makes me grumpier. So anyway, I made my way to the Ubahn and when I stepped on the platform, I noticed the

Veganism Day 11, Cafe Hawelka and a Crazy Weekend Ahead

I think this is one of the longest times I have stuck to being a vegan. Usually by day 5 I have thrown myself into a wheel of brie and made my way out of it with lots of bacon and then called it a day. But for some reason, I have been able to stick it out and I am pretty darn happy about that. While being a vegan is something I never ever ever ever ever thought I would try, and I apologize to all vegans I have made fun of in the past, I have to say that I am feeling pretty darn good. My skin is a lot better, I have lost some weight and my stomach issues have subsided so #win. I am hoping to keep this up until at least the Vienna Ball of Sciences. By the way, tickets are on sale right now so make sure to get them soon because they are selling fast! I am really excited to go to a different winter ball this year. I have gone to the IAEA ball at least 6 times and here comes an obnoxious first world complaint: The Hofburg Palace is just too darn big and it hurts my feetses. The Vienna B

Mosaique and Sewing and Stuff

Today seemed like the LONGEST day EVER. I don't know why but it seemed to drag. Is everybody incredibly sober due to resolutions? My word it felt like a ghost town on the Interwebs. I am finally back home, the Kid is in bed and I am in my polka dot pyjamas and finally warming up. If you live in Vienna, you might have noticed the hurricane-like weather outside. So not good for my hair. Yesterday I had a very very interesting night out. After work I went to Hillinger in the Wien Mitte Mall to meet my friend C.W. for some wine. As I walked through the mall, I heard my name and saw an old friend N.W. We met years back at the company I used to work for and I am glad that we have stayed in touch. And by in touch I mean I got loaded with her and another former colleague a couple of months ago at an Italian restaurant. We chatted briefly and then I made my way to the wine bar because wine. I ordered a glass of rose because Tuesdays are rose days and that is a fact. Check it. Or don'
