Sleep Training and the Juice Cleanse

Image
So I live tweeted the sleep training last night. You can see the summary here on Storify  . The rest of the night went like this: 10:30 Back in his bed, falls asleep within 5 minutes 1:30 In the living room. Yet doesn't attempt to open bedroom door. Hear him squawk and when I go into the living room, find him asleep all Andy Capp like on the sofa. Cover him with a blanket and head back to bed, praying I get a few more hours of sleep. 4:00 Crawls into our bed and sleeps until 7 How do I feel about the whole night? Pretty damn pleased. Tonight will be the same with the sleep training. I want him to be able to fall asleep on his own so that date nights are a possibility again. And I want to stop his internal clock from making him rise at 10:30 at night to head to our bed. Every.single.night. Last night was absolutely heart breaking but I stayed calm, I only said a few words ( One day, son. One day ) each time I brought him back to bed and I felt much more in control than...

Sleep Training - One more time

Image
A few months ago we attempted sleep training. It was hell and what made it worse was that the woman downstairs complained so we couldn't even yell at each other at a healthy volume. We stopped the sleep training because I realized that with all the changes the Kid was going through, this was probably not the best time to try. We sort of eventually got into a rhythm before Christmas where I would go in and read for about 20 minutes from my Kindle or the Husband would lie down beside him and then the Kid would pass out around 7:30 and we would have a few hours of quiet until he would come into our bed sometime around 11. It wasn't bad and the Kid would sleep through the night so it wasn't very pressing to try and change that. But recently the bedtime ritual is taking over an hour and then around 10 he will come to our bed and then around 4 or 5 he will start his demonic whispering and then we get all yelly with each other and this just isn't a good thing. It is ea...

First Operation Tubetop Give Away of 2015

Image
Ello everybody! It's back to work/school/normal life without the glitz and glitter of the holidays. I'm definitely feeling a bit of the post-holiday blues but I have so much to do this month that I will be so distracted that before you know it, it will be my birthday and I will be getting presents again. I was hoping to post a fun post today but I didn't get a chance because I spent a stupid amount of time reading the message boards regarding Teresa Giudice's incarceration. Ugh. Waste of time but so worth it! I will be going out a lot this month, we also will be breaking in a temporary new nanny who is starting tomorrow. We met her yesterday and she is super lovely (she's the daughter of our nanny) but it will be a bit of a challenge to get the Kid to adapt. Plus it will be his first day back at daycare after two weeks so I am taking the afternoon off so that I can make sure we are stocked up on pepper spray and wine... I'm hoping it won't make me br...

Juicing and Pilates

Image
Oh guys. I had such great intentions to go 10 days on just juice and just juice alone. On Friday morning I was all geared up. I made my juice, I drank my juice and in the evening I had a handful of black licorice so I wouldn't try and impale myself on a butter knife. I knew going into the juicing cleanse that it would be hard so I totally planned a couple of distractions. In the morning I headed to Sports Direct which is AMAHZING! Everything is constantly on sale and I lose my ever loving mind every time I step in there. I bought a running holdy cell phone and keys arm thing and I don't even run but for 4 euros? I'LL TAKE IT! I had a 50 euro gift certificate from the Husband and I was able to buy all this for 53 euros. The Jew in me rejoiced! So, I like pink. I got a pair of running shoes, a bag for Bikram to hold my sweddy sweddy stuff, a water bottle for my juice and a blow up ball because I am so going to use it at my desk at work. I am so going to use it for a d...

2015 Resolutions

Image
Now I know a lot of people aren't fans of resolutions and there is always the idea that one is just setting themselves up for failure but meh, I LOVE THEM! They all kind of tie into my vision/gratitude journal that I make at the beginning of each new year. And yes, some things never change (please see last year's resolution re: weight). But that still doesn't stop me from diligently writing down a list every year. So, without further a-do, here are Tova's resolutions for 2015! Less News Watching : This might seem like a bad one but it isn't. I'm limiting my news finding outting to just headlines and then I am moving on to more important stuff like who wore what better. Now, before you call me an idiot for trying to avoid smart things that people talk about as adults at mature functions, let me clarify. I'm not giving up the news, I'm just giving up the detailed news stories. Ever since I have become a mom, my heart seizes anytime anything terr...

New Year's Eve Plan

Image
Sup? It's New Year's Eve. Woot? I haven't had a blow out crazy New Year's Eve in years and that is a-ok. I've traded in the sequins for jeggings. And standing outside in the bitter cold, to watching TV and drinking champagne that hasn't been marked up by 500 per cent. I've had some crazy NYE times; Red Square for Y2K, top of the CN tower, in the center of Vienna (I was on a balcony overlooking the Graben and I may or may not have yelled "BOW DOWN TO YOUR QUEEN, PEASANTS!!" and I totally don't fault people below for aiming fireworks at me) and so on and so forth and guys... I'm tired. I do, however, reserve the right to change my mind next year. This year will be our first New Year's Eve in the new apartment and I am curious if we will see fireworks in the park. We are having a couple of friends over for a casual night of champagne, raclette, and lead melting (Austrian tradition). If you are looking for comfort food and glitter, come...

Last Day of 2014

Image
Wow. It's the last day of 2014. I feel like this has been one rollercoaster of a year. I could say it was a craptastic year but I could also say it was a great year. 2014 was a bit like my teenage self esteem; up and down and up and down and then up for a while when plaid fat hiding shirts came into style. I also tend to get a little emotional at the end of the year. I don't know if it is my fat crying because every year I plan to "lose weight" and January 2nd becomes the day of hunger. Or is it the realization that each year seems to go by a little bit faster? I like to meditate over the past year, to ruminate, to renovate? I am totally selling that line to Kanye. Anyway, here is a bit of a lookback on the year that was 2014. January: Oh boy! Was I excited about January 2014! We were in the midst of getting a diagnosis but things were looking up. We were about to start a new daycare and I was sure that things were going to be great. Famous last words. Feb...
